Hysteresis, Temperature and Resistance Measurements for the Characterisation of the Fatigue Behaviour of Metals

چکیده
Mechanical stress-strain hysteresis, temperature and electrical resistance measurements were performed for the detailed characterisation of the fatigue behaviour of the quenched and tempered steel SAE 4140 (42CrMo4) under constant amplitude loading and service loading. On the basis of generalised Morrow and Basquin equations the fatigue life calculation method “PHYBAL” was developed. Short constant amplitude sequences with a stress amplitude of about 80 % of the endurance limit are periodically inserted in service loading tests to measure the plastic strain amplitude, the change in temperature and the change in electrical resistance. For the fatigue assessment under service loading the average values of each constant amplitude sequence are plotted in cyclic deformation curves, similarly as practised for constant amplitude tests.

Characterisation of the Cyclic Deformation Behaviour of the Nodular Cast Iron ASTM 80-55-06 on the Basis of Physical Measurement Methods
The current paper is focussed on the nodular cast iron ASTM 80-55-06 (EN-GJS-600). The individual microstructure was investigated by light and scanning electron microscopy as well as micro-hardness measurements. Stress-controlled fatigue tests were performed at ambient temperature with testing frequencies of f = 5 Hz and f = 150 Hz. The cyclic deformation behaviour was characterised by means of...

Abstract: Rotating bending fatigue tests have been performed using smooth specimens of a rolled AZ31 magnesium alloy in laboratory air at ambient temperature. Fatigue strength and characteristic was evaluated and fracture mechanism was discussed on the basis fracture surface analysis. Electrical polishing (EP) as well as deep rolling (ball burnishing (BB)) U-notched specimens were performed on ...
متن کاملCharacteristic of P-type AlAs/GaAs Bragg Mirrors Grown by MBE on (100) and (311)A Oriented Substrates
P-type GaAs/AlAs distributed Bragg mirrors have been grown using molecular beam epitaxy on (100) and (311)A GaAs substrates in a similar conditions. A comparison of I-V measurements shows that the resistance of the ungraded mirrors grown on the (311)A substrate is 35 times lower than those grown on the (100) substrate with similar structure. The effective barrier heights for both (311 )A and (1...
متن کاملThe Effect of Various Parameters on Out-of-phase Thermo-mechanical Fatigue Lifetime of A356.0 Cast Aluminum Alloy
In this paper, the effect of various parameters on out-of-phase thermo-mechanical fatigue (OP-TMF) lifetime of A356.0 cast aluminum alloy is investigated. The studied parameters include maximum temperature, dwell time, and the thermo-mechanical loading factor. OP-TMF tests are conducted considering realistic running conditions of diesel engine cylinder heads. The maximum temperature varies betw...
متن کاملEstimation the Fatigue Number of Stone Mastic Asphalt Mixtures Modified with Nano SiO2 and Nano TiO2
Asphalt modification/reinforcement has received considerable attention as viable solutions to enhance flexible pavement performance. This is mainly prompted by the unsatisfactory performance of traditional road materials exposed to dramatic increases and changes in traffic patterns. This paper presents the evaluation of fatigue behaviour of nano reinforced Stone Mastic Asphalt mixtures. Fatigue...
